If you suffer from chronic allergies the Neti Pot might be just what you are looking for.
The Neti Pot won’t cure anything but it will give you relief from the symptoms of sinusitis, cold, flu, allergies, nasal stuffiness, and post-nasal drip. Using the Neti Pot may also help reduce snoring.
The concept is simple. The SinuCleanse Neti Pot is a plastic device that resembles Aladdin’s lamp, but instead of rubbing it and wishing for your congestion to go away, instead you fill it with a solution of salt water and insert the tip in one nostril, tilt your head, and let the warm saline solution rinse your pain away in to the sink. In one nostril and out the other.
It’s not pretty. Don’t have your makeup on already. Mucus will be streaming out your nostril along with the water, and a hearty “honk” in a tissue is required to clean everything out afterwards. You will be able to breathe much better when finished.
You may want to try distilled water but it is not necessary. Also it is a good idea to warm your solution just a little.
Table salt is NOT recommended and should be AVOIDED because it contains iodine and anti-clumping additives. Some alternatives can be one teaspoon of sea salt, kosher salt, or canning salt.
The Neti Pot should be thoroughly cleaned after each use. It is simple to clean and is dishwasher safe.
PROS:
Relieves sinus pressure and improves breathing. Since it is non-medicated it can be used in conjunction with other medicines.
CONS:
It can be a little messy and does take a little time to learn to use properly.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
I believe the Neti Pot is definitely worth trying. It’s inexpensive and just may give your nose the relief it has been searching for. And don’t forget it may also help with snoring.
